Domino Qiu Qiu: The Classic Indonesian Gambling Game

11 Jul 2017, by admin

While many people are familiar with the classic casino games like poker, blackjack and slot machines, there are several countries having their own set of gambling games, either based on native cultures or due to influences from other countries but not without adding their own twist to the ways of having fun. One example is the dominos that people usually associate with, the pieces of plastic that kids and adults stack or even line up. With just one flick or even a sliver of disturbing movement, they will tumble down like chess pieces.

But in Indonesia, the domino pieces are composed out of thick pieces that can be thrown away when they show signs of wear and tear. And they are part of the gambling game that is a staple in the country for quite a long time. It is known as Domino Qiu Qiu.

The Outdoor Betting

The mechanics of the game is focused on the pairings, with the highest value being 9 (or Qiu, hence the name of the game). All players had to place a set amount of money into the pot as the dealer shuffles the domino pieces and then each player will receive three pieces. A player can bet if there are no previous players doing the action, but in case there is one, the others have to call or raise, or even fold the pieces. The final round ends when someone gets the highest value for the pairing and wins the money in the pot. And the next game continues on.

While there are still people enjoying Domino Qiu Qiu outdoors, there are the app and website versions available online, so that even when on the go or when using the computer or laptop, the fun will still be within reach. Feel free to try it out to experience how Indonesians kill their free time.
